Environmental Commitments Prompt Endorsements in Key Race

Leah working Local candidate Leah O'Leary has received another endorsement in her bid for State Representative. The Norwood native now has the support of the Massachusetts Sierra Club, the Commonwealth's chapter of the prominent national environmental organization. "Leah O'Leary has shown us through her profound understanding of local environmental issues that she will be a valued ally in the state house and we look forward to working with her in the future" said Phillip Sego, the Massachusetts Sierra Club's Political Chair.

"My campaign is about changing the priorities on Beacon Hill so that the legislature starts meeting the needs of our families and our communities," O'Leary said. "Of course this means making sure our schools are top notch and quality healthcare is affordable, but it also means making our communities into places we really want to live. We need parks and greenspace. We need clean air and water. Environmental issues are intrinsically tied up with issues of health, security, and quality of life."

"Two of O'Leary's environmental priority issues could show real benefit to Norwood and Walpole families. Clean energy initiatives – ranging from wind power to energy efficient appliances and cars – would decrease our dependence on oil and coal and protect fragile natural resources. Expanding MBTA service would also help protect the environment, while also cutting down on traffic and making the daily commute easier," added Phillip Sego.

The Sierra Club, while noted for their high-profile national positions, is deeply rooted in local, regional, and statewide issues. Their endorsement process includes in-depth research and careful analysis of a questionnaire designed specifically to address local environmental issues. The Club's endorsement is then communicated to its members, which currently number greater than 27,000 statewide.

The Sierra Club is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization dedicated to the preservation, protection, and exploration of the earth's natural environment.
