Two groups have endorsed Leah O’Leary in her bid to unseat State Representative John Rogers, D-Norwood, in the 12th Norfolk District.
The Massachusetts National Organization for Women PAC and Massachusetts Peace Action both endorsed O’Leary.
NOW, a feminist activist group founded in 1966, includes approximately 5,000 members living in Massachusetts. It is concerned with fighting inequality by eliminating discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools and justice system; and eradicating racism, sexism, and homophobia in the communities.
“Leah O’Leary is exactly the kind of candidate and legislator we hope for,” said Mass NOW co-president Terri Febo, who was enthusiastic about O’Leary and her candidacy. “She really understands the needs of working families and is ready to be a leader on the issues that are most important to the women of her district. We’re confident that Leah will do everything she can to ensure that all Massachusetts residents have access to affordable healthcare and housing, equal wages, and quality education.”
Massachusetts Peace Action Director Shelagh Foreman sees O’Leary as an ally on issues of peace and social justice.
“Her broad world view which sees the connections between local and global issues makes her the kind of candidate we hope will succeed,” Foreman said.
O’Leary has worked with the Red Cross in Vietnam. In Norwood, she was a member of the Town-wide Taskforce Against Hate and Violence, aimed at abating social injustice within the community.
Massachusetts Peace Action, with 2,500 members, works on causes ranging from nuclear weapons, to ending the Iraq War.
