Another Endorsement for O'Leary

Leah O'Leary, a Democrat running for State Representative, has added another endorsement to her growing list. Massachusetts Peace Action is pleased to make their official endorsement on behalf of Ms. O'Leary.

Shelagh Foreman, Director of the organization, sees O'Leary as an ally on issues of peace and social justice. "Her broad world view which sees the connections between local and global issues makes her the kind of candidate we hope will succeed." O'Leary has significant experience fighting for justice, both within her home community and in countries half way around the world. After she graduated from college, she spent time in Vietnam working with the Red Cross. Back home Norwood, she was a key member of the Town-wide Taskforce Against Hate and Violence, an organization aimed at abating social injustice within the community.

O'Leary sees her lifetime commitment to peace and social justice as ample preparation for her role at the State House. "Legislating should be about treating people as people, not as means to some political end. The people in this district and in all of Massachusetts should be the legislature's top priority." O'Leary says she looks forward to having an opportunity to work on the issues that affect real people on a day to day basis: educating our children, assuring that housing and healthcare are affordable and available, and making our communities safe, inclusive, and desirable places to live and raise families.

Massachusetts Peace Action's commitment to peace and justice on the statewide and national levels complement O'Leary's campaign in Norwood. "I've always seen my involvement in my community as an example of thinking globally and acting locally," O'Leary commented. The organization does indeed think - and act - globally and locally, its 2,500 members working on causes ranging from nuclear weapons, to ending the Iraq War and making our federal budget prioritize the needs of our communities rather than the military.

O'Leary has also been endorsed by the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the National Association of Social Workers MA PACE, the National Organization for Women's Massachusetts Chapter, and the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund.
